OPENING CEREMONY

The Opening Ceremony will be on Sunday, 20th March at 5:30 pm, at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.  Teams are asked to assemble by 5:00 pm.

REGISTRATION

The dates for Registration are Saturday 12th and 19th March, at the BABA office at the YMCA, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.  No club will be allowed to register after these dates.  Registration forms have been attached.

FEES

Yearly Affiliation fees are $200.00.  $500 should be deposited at registration, of which $300.00 is refunded if the Club participates in the Opening Ceremony with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 members.  Teams must parade in playing gear.

Players fees are $35.00, per player.  Late player registration fees are $50.00, per player.

Coaches fees are $35.00.  This is a new fee, which was instituted to raise funds for coaches training and certification courses.

Example - A club with only 8 players would have to pay $815.00 at Registration:

Affiliation fee - $500.00

Players fees - $280.00 ($35.00 × 8)

Coaches fee - $35.00

Total - $815.00

Clubs are asked to note that 2004 prize money can be used to pay the above mentioned fees and those clubs desirous of doing so, should state such at the time of registration.

COACHES CLINIC

A Coaches Clinic was conducted during the months of January – March, this year and the successful participants will be awarded certificates at the Opening Ceremony.  Another clinic will be held during the course of the year, as the BABA continues with one of its mandates, to ensure that our coaches are given the opportunity to improve their skills, for the improvement of the sport.

OFFICALS CLINIC

The BABA has been lenient in the past with clubs that have failed to send representatives to the Officials Clinic.  This will no longer be tolerated, as there remains the urgent need for more referees and a club will be required to have at least one representative at the clinic.  Registration forms will provide clubs with the opportunity to list at least two persons, providing full contact information, so that the BABA will be able to get in touch with them.

TOURNAMENTS

There will be four tournaments this season, the Sagicor League Competition, the Knockout, the President’s Invitational Tournament and a Community Tournament.  The first tournament of the season will be the League competition.

SAGICOR LEAGUE

The Sagicor League playing days will be as follows:

Premier Division games will begin on Tuesday 22nd March.  Games will be played primarily on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Women’s games will begin either Saturday 26thor Tuesday 29th March.  Games will be played primarily on Sundays and Tuesdays, depending on the number of teams registered.  There will be a meeting for all women’s teams to further discuss their season.  The tentative date for this meeting is Tuesday, 22nd March, subject to confirmation of a meeting venue.

Intermediate and Third Division games will begin on Tuesday 29th March.  Games will be played on any day.

KNOCKOUT

There will be a Junior and Senior Knockout this year, as was the case last year.  The Junior Knockout will be contested between the Intermediate and Third Division teams, with only team per club.  Games will be played on weekends, whilst their respective Leagues are in progress.  The top 8 teams from the Junior Knockout will qualify to join the 8 Premier Division teams, in the Senior Knockout, which will be contested after the end of the Premier Division League Tournament.

PRESIDENT’S INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

A President’s Invitational Tournament will be contested at the end of the season amongst the top teams from all divisions.  The teams and the format will be announced at the conclusion of the League and Knockout Tournaments.

COMMUNITY TOURNAMENT

There will be an additional community tournament on Sundays, beginning 3rd April, comprised of the 8 teams from last year’s Premier Division League Tournament and the top 2 teams from the Intermediate Division League Tournament.  These 10 teams will compete in 2 zones of 5 and will play a round robin tournament, with each team having one home game.  4 games will be played on Sundays, at 2 separate venues.

The zones were seeded based on last years final positions in the League and are as follows:

Zone 1 – Cavaliers, Bulls, Lakers, Combined Schools and Team Heineken

Zone 2 – Warriors, DC United Pinelands, Senators and Jackson.

At the end of the preliminaries the top two teams from each zone will proceed to the one game semifinals and the winners will compete in the final.

When hosting games the home team needs to ensure that the courts are clean, the rings have nets, there are benches for teams, a desk and chairs for officials and there is crowd control.

There have been some adjustments to the playing rules and these will be distributed shortly.
